James G Barry is based in Brooklyn NY. Over the lockdown James and his band mate David B Wilson started writing and releasing music based on jams they were having while playing in public parks. “Scrantonia” is an epic polka-rock-jam-opus followed by “14.7lbf/sqin” that celebrates the bitter sweet feeling of getting to play again after the lockdown. They throw covers into the mix that range from Morphine to Johnny Cash to The Dead Kennedys.

Residencies in NYC have proved a fertile ground to collaborate with some of the greatest blues and jazz musicians in New York City.

Stephanie Chou Group

Chinese influences with Western jazz/pop; Asian fusion jazz/world

Stephanie Chou blends influences from her Chinese heritage with jazz/pop. Her band has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub, and in festivals worldwide. They combine sax/vocals in Mandarin/English with Chinese violin and a rhythm section. An Irvington native, her album Asymptote focused on jazz reinventions of Chinese folk songs.

An exciting big band performing tribute to Stevie Wonder’s “Innervisions.”

The Library Jazz Band is a dynamic big band comprised of some of the best jazz artists in the Rivertowns area. Our current roster of players is diverse in background, gender, and ethnicity. This summer, the band is featuring a tribute to the 50th anniversary of Stevie Wonder’s “Innervisions” with custom arrangements of the entire album.

Sophia Rae is a singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles, originally from New York’s lower Hudson Valley. Her music is infused with memory, insight, and emotional connection, weaving stories that are profound and personal, yet easily recognizable as shared experiences. Sophia Rae was a featured performer at the LA Times 2022 Festival of Books, a cultural touchstone that draws 100,000 attendees annually. Her debut single, “Let You Stay” is streaming on Spotify and other music platforms.

Funk, Soul and Popular Tunes Reimagined

Slingshots plays a groovy collection of covers that span the likes of funk, soul, latin and jazz. Listen closely, you might hear a popular song with a slightly different vibe or feel.
Slingshots began as outdoor rehearsals during the pandemic in 2020. Dave, Chris, Steve and Jeremy began as an instrumental group but wanted to access more great tunes. Since then they have added Rebecca Hirschberg as a vocalist to the cast.

Luscious Harmonies, Robust Melodies, and Unexpected Twists and Turns

Us! happened when Judy Kass, Glen Roethel and Amy Soucy came together to write songs encouraging positive change, unity, and dialogue. The trio spices their message-driven compositions with luscious harmonies, robust melodies, and unexpected twists and turns. The Us! co-write, “Too Much Crying” garnered a Gold Award in the Open Category of the 36th Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Currently, Us! is in the studio working on their first album with an anticipated release in 2023.
