Stephanie Chou blends influences from her Chinese heritage with jazz/pop. Her band has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Joe’s Pub, and in festivals worldwide. They combine sax/vocals in Mandarin/English with Chinese violin and a rhythm section. An Irvington native, her album Asymptote focused on jazz reinventions of Chinese folk songs. DownBeat called Comfort Girl, her song-cycle on WWII Asian ‘comfort women’, “A stunning work that shines light on a dark chapter of history.”
